Biographical Note
Billie Joe Call was born in Tennessee in 1942. His family moved to New Jersey, where he attended Trenton Junior College after graduating from high school. Call worked for the Solid State Technology Center, where he designed circuit boards and wrote code for systems that employed RCA’s COSMAC microprocessor.
Call was awarded a patent for his work and died in 2006.
Scope and Content
The Billie Joe Call papers are composed of schematics, notes, correspondence, and user manuals related to the research and development of systems that employed RCA’s COSMAC microprocessor. These included what RCA scientists called “FRED,” or flexible recreational and educational devices, such as Studio II, III, and IV, VIP, and Microtutor.
