Biographical Note
Albert M. Morrell (1922-2011) was born in Clinton, Iowa, in 1922 and served three years in the U.S. Army Air Force during the Second World War. In 1950, he graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He joined RCA that same year and eventually became Manager of Product Development. During his lengthy career, he was issued 29 U.S. patents related to color television. He co-authored the book Color Television Picture Tubes, which was published by the Academic Press in 1974. He was twice presented the RCA David Sarnoff Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award, in 1964 and 1976. In 1979, he was awarded the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Vladimar K. Zworykin Award for contributions to shadow-mask color picture tube design and development. After 37 years with RCA, he served as a consultant for the Thomson Company.

Most of the Morrell papers are scientific publications by other authors. A few unpublished documents relate to Morrell’s professional responsibilities at RCA/Thomson.
