Biographical Note

Ralph R. Fichtl (1918-2014) was hired by RCA in 1941 as a technician at the Harrison, New Jersey tube plant. In 1956, he was promoted from general foreman to manufacturing engineer.

From 1958 to 1963 he was a field engineer with the Entertainment Sales and Marketing Department in Newark, New Jersey. He provided technical service and guidance to RCA’s Tube Division customers. He then moved to Woodbridge, New Jersey in 1963 to take on duties as a manufacturing engineer in the design and adaptation of Receiving Tube designs for volume production methods. Returning to Harrison in 1974 as a product development and applications engineer, he was responsible for developmental work on tubes.

Fichtl left RCA when the company closed the Harrison plant in 1976. In 1977, he joined Electro-Scan, Inc. in Garfield, New Jeresey as Electronic Equipment Design & Development Engineer at Electro-Scan Inc., Garfield, New Jersey. He retired in 1983 to his long-time home in Colts Head, New Jersey and died at age 96 on May 21, 2014.
