Historical Note
The Physical Electronics Research Laboratory was split off from the Materials Research Laboratory in 1969 as the Solid State Research Laboratory under George D. Cody. Renamed the Physical Electronics Research Laboratory in 1971, the lab was dissolved in 1975.
The laboratory conducted research on broad range of materials and devices, particularly metals, insulators, and optics.
Scope and Content
The Physical Electronics Research Laboratory records consist of the papers of two of the David Sarnoff Research Center’s most distinguished scientists, Edward G. Ramberg and Albert Rose. Their writings, correspondence, notes, and translations document RCA research on television, electron optics, electron microscopy, photoconductivity, and related fields.
