Historical Note
High Definition and Multimedia Systems was established in 1996 under Senior Director (later Vice-President) Glenn A. Reitmeier. This united high definition television (HDTV) and related research under Reitmeier, who had been directing the High Definition Imaging and Multimedia Laboratory (formerly the High Definition Imaging and Computing Laboratory) since 1991.
Scope and Content
This record group contains papers from scientists working on a wide range of electronics projects, particularly high definition television (HDTV) and advanced compatible television (ACTV). The Charles M. Wine and Edward C. Fox papers also document project “Sliced Bread” (also known by the funder’s codename “Toaster”), an attempt to develop a virtual reality video game system.
