Dates
- Creation: 1905-1921
Scope and Content
The Subseries contains papers received by William du Pont as the Finance Committee chairman and the member of the Board of Directors. These include circular letters, reports, financial estimations, and forecasts. Of interest are regular reports of L. A. de Cazenove Jr. on construction works at company guncotton plants at Hopewell in Virginia, Carney's Point, Haskell, and Parlin in New Jersey, and Picric Acid Plant in New Jersey. These show the company's response to the increased demand for smokeless powder during World War I. Other topics include insurance of company stocks, company bonus plan, mail and telephone use policies, policy on employee communication with the media, department organization, financing of the Ammophos Company, and the proposed construction of a powder plant in France. A number of litigation documents forms a separate group at the end of the subseries. These primarily relate to the suit brought by Philip F. du Pont and other stockholders against certain officers and directors of E.I. du Pont de Nemours Powder Company and E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company for defrauding the company on a large scale for their personal gain.
