Historical Note
The Delaware Trust Company was incorporated in Delaware in July 1910. In 1916, William du Pont and his cousin Alfred I. du Pont bought the company. William du Pont was the company vice president from 1916 to 1920, president from January 1920 (after Alfred I. du Pont's resignation) until 1922, and chairman of the board in 1923-1928. His son William du Pont Jr. was elected to the board in November 1920, became president in 1929-1964, and was also board chairman in 1952-1964.
Scope and Content
Subseries A mostly consists of letters to William du Pont from Alfred du Pont and Delaware Trust Company directors and officers: C. Dickson, R. Penington, W. Taylor, J. Nixon, S. Baker, T. Cooper, H. Jefferson, H. Dobler, E. Bradford, C. Curtis, C. Mills, and G. Medill, and discusses company's financial statements and reports, banking operations, stockholders issues, and employment and salaries. Additional correspondence of the same period and with the same correspondents can be found in the Incoming and Outgoing Subseries of the General Correspondence Series.
