Scope and Content
Materials have been divided into five subseries – A. Board of Directors, B. Financials, C. Subject files, D. Surveys, E. Working files.
Board of Directors files contain founding documents that include The House Furnishing Manufacturers Association of America articles of incorporation, treasurer's report, and board meeting minutes. The organization's name change is also documented - November 12, 1940 the name changes to Housewares Manufacturers Association, and August 6, 1946 to National Housewares Manufacturers Association. Minutes of National Housewares Manufactures Association meetings 1953-1984, primarily describe the organization of the annual housewares exposition. There is also documentation relating to the election of officers, budget matters, and periodic revisions to the by-laws. In 2000, in tune with the growing global industry, NHMA changed it's name to International Housewares Association.
Financial Records are ledgers from 1947-1949 and records of cash receipts and disbursements, 1985-1986. Subject files contain information IHA's Government Affairs Committee as well as work with the National Tabletop & Giftware Association. Surveys on family interaction and show participation have been preserved. Working files contain correspondence, executive committee meetings, and a history of IHA.
