District 16 of Pilot International, 1941-1983
Part of collection: Elva M. Chandler papers (2057)
Dates
- Creation: 1941-1983
Scope and Content
After originally being a part of District 11, the Pilot Club of Wilmington was transferred to District 16 in 1947. This level of the organization included clubs in Connecticut, Delaware, Washington DC, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. Chandler attended many of the annual conventions. There are programs and reservation material from several of these conventions. Since Chandler was District Secretary in 1951, there is a lot of correspondence from that year. Other material includes the Governor’s Bulletin newsletter and reports from District officers. The ‘Other States’ folder contains rosters and newsletters from Pilot Clubs in other District 16 states.
In 1957, Wilmington was the host for the District Convention, and Elva Chandler was the Convention Chairman. This material covers all aspects of organizing a large area convention and includes correspondence, notes, bills, announcements, programs, nametags, and post-convention thank you notes.
