Scope and Content
Contains corporate and official documentation from electric street railway companies in Wilmington and Delaware County, Pennsylvania, most notably the city of Chester. Subseries A: Corporate papers, includes incorporation papers, leases, deeds, agreements, reports to regulatory commissions, city ordinances, dissolutions, financial reports, articles of association, charters, and resolutions. The majority of street railway companies represented in this series were merged and consolidated with the Wilmington & Philadelphia Traction Company in 1915, and continued to operate in some capacity under the Delaware Electric Power Company. Most were dissolved in the mid-1930s. Note that papers from turnpike companies are also included. Subseries B: Track construction and removal, contains reports and other documentation relating to streetcar track construction and removal in the Wilmington and Chester areas from the 1920s to the early 1940s.
