Biographical Note
Ewart H. “Bud” Shattuck (1923-1998) worked for Joseph Bancroft & Sons Company in a variety of capacities, including manager of the engineering section, overall supervision of the chemical and engineering section, and manager of the Ban-Lon program.
Shattuck was born April 29, 1923, in Pelham, New York, to Emilia Vollmer Shattuck (1896-1985) and Ewart L. Shattuck (1895-1973), and he graduated from Northeastern University School of Engineering and Harvard Business School. He worked on the Lincoln Tunnel as a student engineer during the WPA and served in the Air Force during World War II.
Over the course of his career in the textile industry, Shattuck accumulated several patents in his name for developments in textile and garment processing, including a patent for one-hour dry cleaning. His career took him from New York to Wilmington, Delaware, Zurich, Switzerland, and finally Cincinnati, Ohio.
In 1962, Shattuck was named vice president and manager of the engineering section of Joseph Bancroft & Sons Company and manager of the Ban-Lon program. Three years later, he was promoted to assist Bancroft president Arnold L. Lippert in overall supervision of the chemical and engineering section.
Shattuck died May 15, 1998, in Vermont.
