Biographical Note
Arnold L. Lippert (1910-2004) worked for the Joseph Bancroft Company first as chemical director, then as vice president and president. He was involved in the development of several products, including Everglaze, Minicare, Tutored, Bancare, Bancora, Teutralized, and Banlon, as well as held numerous patents and authored many publications for the textile industry.
Lippert was born November 12, 1910, in Kewanee, Illinois, to Nellie B. James Lippert (1885-1979) and Helmuth Lippert (1884-1944). He graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science and then earned his doctorate in chemistry from John Hopkins University in 1934. Following graduation, he was briefly employed as a research chemist at the DuPont Company. From there, he went to the Joseph Bancroft Company.
From 1941 to 1944, Lippert was chief of the dyestuff’s section of the United States War Production Board, serving in Washington, DC, as a “dollar-a-year man.” He was also chairman of the National Committee of Dyestuff’s Industry.
Lippert served as the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Delaware from 1966 to 1971, followed by a five-year term as the dean of the College of Graduate Studies and associate provost at the University.
Lippert died on November 10, 2004.
