Historical Note
E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company is a chemical company. Founded in 1802, the company began with the production of gunpowder. Around 1883 DuPont bought the Lake Superior Powder Company. Throughout the 1920s, the emphasis shifted towards the development of synthetic fibers and other materials. In 1930 the DuPont Company acquired Roessler and Hasslacher Chemical Company.
The Public Affairs Department was originally created in 1912 and was called the Publicity Bureau. It became an autonomous Publicity Department in 1935 and was renamed the Public Relations Department in 1938 and then the Public Affairs Department in 1973.
