Scope and Contents

The Indian Motorcycle Company series is divided into two subseries: Publications, advertisements, and company images; and Administrative files.

The publications, advertisements, and company images subseries includes photographic prints of E. Paul du Pont with Indian Motorcycle products and snapshots of racers riding Indian Motorcycle vehicles. The subseries also includes motorcycle trade publications having to do directly with Indian Motorcycle Company or motorcycle innovation in general, and two video discs interviewing both Indian Motorcycle vehicle owners and Stephen du Pont.

The administrative files subseries includes extensive correspondence between E. Paul du Pont and his son Stephen du Pont (1915-2012) who became invested in the Indian Motorcycle Company. There are also several canceled checks paid to the order of Indian Motorcycle Company and progress reports addressed to the company during World War II regarding Indian Motorcycle's production rates. This subseries provides some information regarding the purchase of company stock between DuPont Motors, Inc. and Indian Motorcycle Company.
