Historical Note

Elmer Davis Matthews (1905-2000) was born in Paoli, Pennsylvania and moved to Chester Springs, Pennsylvania on February 7, 1918. He married Frances Emma Dinkel (1907-1999) on June 7, 1930. The couple had two daughters and one son. Matthews worked as a farmer during his young life and then as a school director from 1939 to 1957.

Interview Location: Chester Springs, Pennsylvania

Matthews discusses Oliver Collins, Anselma Mill, the Pickering Valley Railroad and shipping milk, coal, feed, hay/straw to Philadelphia, John and Horace Collins and their skills at repairing equipment, and a cow that was hit by a train.
