Scope and Content
Interviewer: David Farber.
Interview location: Alamo, California.
The interview begins with Sala and Kennedy describing Dolores’ relationship with her in-laws, John and Helena Raskob. Kennedy details stories about parties thrown by Bob and Dolores that John Raskob would attend. Sala talks about her father’s relationship with his parents and her relationship with Jack Corcoran. Kennedy explains when he first met Bob, his recollections about Bob’s involvement with the Al Smith presidential campaign, and first meeting Dolores. Kennedy and Sala recount Bob and Dolores courtship, when they were first married, and Dolores’ parents, particularly her mother. Sala shares an anecdote (most likely untrue) about John Raskob meeting Lucky Luciano, and Luciano wanting to back Al Smith. They go on to discuss the Kentucky distillery that John Raskob purchased prior to prohibition, Bob Raskob moving out west to run mines and his service in the Air Force. Sala outlines her father’s charity work and philanthropic activities, his love of children. She discusses his relationship with his siblings, and the siblings relationships with each other. She describes her father’s character. They conclude by talking more about his charity work specifically with children and orphanages. [ID: DudleyKennedyTape1-1]
