Biographical Note

Elizabeth "Betty" Anne Parkman (1910-2009) was the fourth oldest child of John and Helena Raskob. She was born in Wilmington, Delaware. She attended the Ursuline Academy in Wilmington, the Academy of Mount St. Vincent on Hudson in New York, and the Kenwood Convent of the Sacred Heart in Albany, New York. Parkman was active in many philanthropic activities, including the Raskob Foundation for Catholic Activities. Parkman married Timothy D. Parkman (1903-1961) in 1934. The couple had one daughter, Rosalie Parkman (1937-). Parkman resided in Tucson, Arizona for over sixty years.

Parkman recalls attending boarding school and meeting Governor Al Smith of New York. She speaks about learning to sail and describes her relationship with her mother and father. She discusses the first time she traveled to Europe, meeting the Pope, and a cross country trip she took with friends. She recounts how she met her husband, getting married, living in New York, and the death of her brother Bill and sister Yvonne. She talks about the independent spirit of the Raskob family, taking care of yourself, being responsible, and charitable. Finally, she mentions her move to Tuscan. [ID: BettyParkmantape1-1]
