Abstract

Dr. Margaret (Meg) M. Mulrooney is Associate Professor of History and Associate Vice-Provost of University Studies at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The collection consists of research data supporting Mulrooney's doctoral dissertation "Labor at Home: The Domestic World of Workers at the du Pont Powder Mills, 1802-1902."

Biographical Note

Dr. Margaret (Meg) M. Mulrooney is Associate Professor of History and Associate Vice-Provost of University Studies at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. A native of Wilmington, Delaware, she received her B.A. from the University of Delaware and her M.A. and Ph.D. in American Studies from the College of William and Mary in 1996. Much of her research and teaching focuses on local and public history, collective memory, and 19th and early 20th century United States social and cultural history, particularly race and identity. Selected publications by Mulrooney include Black Powder, White Lace: The du Pont Irish and Cultural Identity in 19th-Century America, Fleeing the Famine: North America and Irish Refugees, 1845-1861, A Legacy of Coal: The Coal Company Towns of Southwestern Pennsylvania, and Norvelt and Penncraft, Pennsylvania: Subsistence Homestead Communities of the 1930s.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of research data supporting Mulrooney's doctoral dissertation "Labor at Home: The Domestic World of Workers at the du Pont Powder Mills, 1802-1902."

Processing Notes

Files were recovered from a Tobshiba T3100E laptop by imaging the hard drive via the Linux operating system Ubuntu. Paradox 3.5 databases were converted to comma separated values (CSV) text files for digital preservation.
