Abstract

Arthur Wood Tocher (1919-2005) was a transportation history enthusiast, specializing in large vehicles with an emphasis on trucks. This collection consists of truck and car related images. The bulk of the collection contains photographs that Tocher took at truck shows in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The collection also includes images of construction vehicles, postcards of classic cars, a calendar with images of classic trucks, and a large truck photograph mounted on wood.

Biographical Note

Arthur Wood Tocher (1919-2005) was a transportation history enthusiast, specializing in large vehicles, with an emphasis on trucks. He was a charter member and driver for the Tuxedo Volunteer Ambulance Corps and a long-time member of the Antique Truck Club of America.

Tocher was born and raised in Tuxedo, New York. During World War II, he was a Rifleman with the 2nd Infantry Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for distinguished service in Europe, where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Tocher worked for the propeller division of the Curtiss-Wright Corporation for more than twenty years. He then worked in the granulation department of Ciba-Geigy until he retired in 1986.

Scope and Content

This collection consists of truck and car related images. The bulk of the collection contains photographs that Tocher took at truck shows in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The truck shows are outdoors in a grassy field and have various types of trucks on display. Presumably the truck shows take place in Tuxedo, New York. The collection also includes images of construction vehicles, postcards of classic cars, a calendar with images of classic trucks, and a large truck photograph mounted on wood.
