Historical Note
The Erie City Iron Works in Erie, Pennsylvania, was a major manufacturer of boilers, stationary and portable engines, and machinery for sawmills and steam riveting. It also manufactured railroad freight and passenger cars. By 1880 it was one of the largest manufacturers of boilers and engines in the United States.
Scope and Content
The collection consists of technical diagrams of engines. These include a repair list of Tangye engine parts; a center crank high speed engine repair list; a repair list for "D" engine parts; an enclosed four-valve engine repair list; a repair sheet for Lentz valve gear and adjustable cut off; and a repair sheet for Lentz valve-gear, governor and hand speed adjustment.
