Historical Note

The oil fields in Burkburnett, Texas are well-known for being an abundant source of petroleum. Oil was struck in Burkburnett in 1912, and then again in 1918 an 1925. Thousands of people were drawn to the area for work at one of the many oil refineries that were established. The area experienced a significant decline in population due to the Great Depression which continued throughout the 1940s.
