Historical Note

The pulp keg mill was built around 1904 to manufacture an experimental design of black and smokeless powder container made essentially from paper. The design was a dismal failure, being not moisture proof and also easily crushed in transportation on railroads (as some of the photographs demonstrate). The building burned in 1912 and pulp keg production was abandoned. The structure eventually became part of the DuPont Company's Hall of Records.
