Historical Note

Insurance Society of Philadelphia provided a forum for persons engaged in the fire insurance business. It was organized in October 1901, as the Fire Insurance Society of Philadelphia at the suggestion of Houston Dunn (1876-1947). It was incorporated in December 1909; and renamed the Insurance Society of Philadelphia in 1925. The society maintained a library and meeting room and held a series of monthly meetings at which one of the members would deliver an address upon some aspect of fire insurance or fire prevention. The society also held annual banquets.
