Abstract:

E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company is a chemical company more commonly referred to as the DuPont Company. The DuPont Corporate Plans Department is primarily responsible for coordinating all of the company’s strategic business planning activities. The records of DuPont Corporate Plans are fragmentary in nature and document only a small segment of the department’s responsibilities. These records are arranged into two series: Multi-client reports and Silverstone tracking study. The bulk of the material is contained in Series I and consists of multi-client reports, which are marketing studies prepared by outside consulting firms.

E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company is a chemical company more commonly referred to as the DuPont Company. DuPont Information Systems is a department of the DuPont Company that facilitates the adaptation of increasingly complex equipment and improved programming techniques, selects those with the greatest applicability to the company’s business, and guides other departments in their use. The records of DuPont Information Systems are incomplete and reflect only a portion of the department’s activities. These records are arranged in three series: Central Information Services Division; Planning and Development Division; and Telecommunications and network technology.

Haskell Laboratory for Toxicology and Industrial Medicine records

Abstract:

The Haskell Laboratory was established in 1935 as a Dupont Company research laboratory tasked with identifying potential health risks that could result from DuPont products and processes. DuPont called the laboratory the first of its kind in the United States, and the lab grew to become a respected and influential leader in the fields of occupational safety and toxicology. The records in this collection provide insight into the early motivations for creating the lab. In addition, the various papers, records, and publications document the laboratory’s research interests, business operations, and human resources activities.

James P. Baughman collection on strategy and structure at the General Electric Company

Abstract:

James Porter Baughman (1936-) was a professor of business history at the Harvard Business School and later served as director of Crotonville, The General Electric Company's management development institute in Ossining, New York. His academic research was in the study of management strategy and structure, and following his tenure at Harvard, his position at General Electric gave him the opportunity to implement various business management concepts that he developed during his teaching years. The collection consists of news clippings and original documents amassed by Baughman for his studies of strategic planning and management structure at General Electric.

This collection of Baughman's personal and professional papers documents some of his teaching career at Harvard Business School. However, the bulk of the collection is papers generated during his consulting and teaching work at General Electric.
