Abstract

Electronic Data Systems (EDS) was an American multinational information technology equipment and services company headquartered in Plano, Texas. It was founded in 1962 by Ross Perot (1930-2019). This small collection consists of employee newsletters and sales and marketing bulletins from EDS dating from the late 1980s through 1998.

Electronic Data Systems (EDS) was an American multinational information technology equipment and services company headquartered in Plano, Texas. It was founded in 1962 by Ross Perot (1930-2019).

EDS began providing IT management services for other companies, including Texas's Medicaid and Medicare. Throughout the 1980s, the firm expanded into financial markets, travel services, and manufacturing minicomputers.

Between 1984 and 1996, EDS was a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors. Throughout the 1990s, EDS entered the telecommunications industry. EDS provided information systems for global sporting events such as the FIFA World Cups (1994 and 1998) and the Barcelona Olympics in 1992.

EDS was acquired by Hewlett-Packard in 2008.

Scope and Contents

This small collection consists of employee newsletters and sales and marketing bulletins from EDS dating from the late 1980s through 1998.

There are three employee newsletters; the largest set is EDS Connections, which dates from 1994 to 1999. It is not a full run. Each issue generally features articles on company programs, employees, products, and policies. There are several issues of Open Line employee newsletter dating from 1985 to 1986. The title was revived and reused again in the 1990s.

There are two marketing newsletters/bulletins, Marketline, offering marketing support for the Health Services Division, and Marketshare, focusing on corporate marketing.

The Sales Attaché bulletin highlights resources for sales employees. There is also a workbook titled Valu Guide: Customer Value that a sales team could complete. It describes the opportunity profile, key contact evaluator, opportunity analysis system, sales goals and strategies, and non-revenue goals for relationship development.
