Biographical Note
Louis R. Wonderly (1931-) worked in the Secretary's Department at E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company for thirty years. E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company is a chemical company more commonly referred to as the DuPont Company.
Louis R. Wonderly Sr. was born in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, to Alberta R. Harple Wonderly (1905-1966) and Lewis R. Wonderly (1901-1979). He graduated from Phoenixville High School and Pennsylvania State University.
Wonderly joined the DuPont Company in 1960; he began working in the Secretary's Department in 1966. In 1967, he was appointed secretary to the DuPont monthly management meetings. In 1969, Wonderly was the assistant secretary to the company's board of directors.
In 1976, Wonderly became the assistant secretary of the Remington Arms Co., a DuPont subsidiary, as well as the secretary to the Executive, Finance, and Compensation committees.
Wonderly retired from the DuPont Company in 1989.
In 1959, he married Carolyn Wisswaesser Wonderly (circa 1938-); the couple has one son.
Scope and Contents
This small collection of Louis Wonderly's papers offers a glimpse into the secretary's work at the DuPont Company. The documentation consists of management notes, secretary memoranda, and company executives' biographical information, including portrait photographs. There are DuPont Company organizational charts, newsletters, and newspaper clippings.
There are files from the DuPont Company's London Board Meeting that also visited Luxembourg, Aberdeen, and Edinburgh in 1984. These materials consist of daily itineraries, brochures, memoranda, programs, dinner menus, maps, receipts, photographs, and booklets; they provide an inside look into the organization and content of that event and reveal how the company understood its challenges and opportunities.
