Biographical Note
Earle E. Coleman (1925-2009) was the head of imprints cataloging at Eleutherian Mills Historical Library. He joined the Longwood Library in 1955 and made the transition when that organization joined the Eleutherian Mills-Hagley Foundation. He left in 1961 to become the librarian at the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York. He later was the University Archivist at Princeton University from 1971 to 1990.
Coleman attended the University of Rochester and George Washington University. He attended Harvard Law School and held a master’s degree in library science from Simmons College. In his early career, he was an assistant in the acquisitions department at Baker Library at Harvard from 1948 to 1949, and from 1950 to 1955 he was a research assistant to the editor of the Bibliography of American Literature.
Scope and Contents
The typescript bibliography includes collaborative works, English translations, and items in published compilations of papers written by Pierre Samuel du Pont de Nemours (1739-1817), a French political economist, writer, publisher, and public administrator. He was an advocate for a national educational system and promoted Franco-American trade relations. Most of the titles and information are in French.
