Abstract

Isaac Elder Blake (1844-1906) founded the Continental Oil and Transportation Company in 1875 in Utah as a distributor of oil, kerosene, and other products. In 1929, the company merged with the Marland Oil Company, continuing to operate using the name Continental Oil Company. This volume contains extracts of minutes and auditor's reports concerning a revision of the company's finances during the Great Depression and an analysis of the company's financial position and prospects.

Historical Note

Isaac Elder Blake (1844-1906) founded the Continental Oil and Transportation Company in 1875 in Utah as a distributor of oil, kerosene, and other products. In 1883, Blake oversaw the construction of the first oil pipeline in the state of California. Separately, E.W. Marland (1874-1941) founded the Marland Oil Company in Oklahoma in 1917, incorporated in 1921. On June 26, 1929, that company acquired Continental, and the merged company operated under the Continental Oil Company name. It was renamed Conoco, Inc., on July 1, 1979. In 2002, it merged with Phillips Petroleum Company to become ConocoPhillips.

Scope and Contents

This volume contains extracts of minutes and auditor's reports concerning a revision of the company's finances during the Great Depression, including re-valuing the company's stock to a par value, the value of a single common share as set by a corporation's charter, of $5 per share. The volume also contains an analysis of the company's financial position and prospects.
