Abstract

Arnold M. Kneitel (1923-2012) worked in the Film Department of E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company, specializing in marketing research for Mylar polyester film. His papers are related to his career he preserved at home and include ephemera relating to the marketing of Mylar and papers on office management information systems and the early years of word processing, among other items.

Biographical Note

Arnold M. Kneitel (1923-2012) worked in the Film Department of E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company, specializing in marketing research for Mylar polyester film.

Kneitel was born in Brooklyn, New York, on December 30, 1923. After serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II, he studied at Brooklyn Polytechnic and then joined the Film Department at DuPont in 1954. In 1963, he was promoted to Product Manager, Magnetic Tape. Kneitel was also an early advocate of Management Information Systems and the use of computers in the office. He retired in 1989 and died at Wilmington on January 13, 2012.

They include clippings from his college newspaper, letters of appointment and congratulations, ephemera relating to the marketing of Mylar, and papers on office management information systems and the early years of word processing. The latter are particularly interesting as documenting DuPont's early steps in office automation.
