The Manheim, Petersburg and Lancaster Turnpike or Plank Road Company constructed a plank road between the named towns in 1851 to 1852, during the plank road craze. The records consist of eight pocket volumes and some loose papers kept by the company treasurer, such as a subscription book, toll gatherers' receipt book, and payment book.

The Manheim, Petersburg and Lancaster Turnpike or Plank Road Company was incorporated in Pennsylvania on May 9, 1850, during the plank road craze. It constructed a plank road between the above-named towns from 1851 to 1852.
Scope and Contents
Manheim, Petersburg and Lancaster Turnpike or Plank Road Company records consist of eight pocket volumes and some loose papers kept by the company treasurer. A subscription book and installment books (1850-1853) list all subscribers to and monies received for stock. A toll gatherers' receipt book (1854-1855) lists payments of salaries to toll collectors. A payment book (1851-1855) lists expenses for construction, salaries, etc. There is also a tally sheet for an election of directors in 1862, as well as some loose accounts showing a breakdown of the cost of the road.
