Abstract

John R. McGrath (1923-2002) was a patent attorney who worked for E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company for most of his career. McGrath worked primarily on nylon and its products. This collection consists of a notebook McGrath assembled and titled "Collection of Nylon Art," containing all of the nylon patents of the DuPont Company that he could find.

Biographical Note

John R. McGrath (1923-2002) was a patent attorney who worked for E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company for most of his career.

McGrath was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on June 9, 1923. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1946, followed by three years of service in Asia and again during the Korean War. Before being recalled into active Naval duty, McGrath graduated from the University of Kansas Law School.

McGrath was working in the U.S. Patent Office in 1958 when he was recruited as a patent attorney with the Legal Department of E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company. McGrath worked primarily on nylon and its products. He later worked for Berg Electronics, a new DuPont Company subsidiary, until his retirement in 1985. He died on June 19, 2002.

Scope and Contents

This collection consists of a notebook McGrath assembled and titled "Collection of Nylon Art," containing all of the nylon patents of the DuPont Company that he could find. The notebook has copies of patents and associated materials relating to methods of spinning nylon fibers.
