Abstract

Gertrude Ruhnka (1891-1981) was a research librarian at the Huntington Library in California. The collection contains her unpublished manuscript, "Love for life: a self-portrait of the first three generations of du Ponts in America, 1791-1834," and two letters from Ruhnka to J.B. Lippincott Company and Dr. Walter J. Heacock of the Eleutherian Mills-Hagley Foundation.

Biographical Note

Gertrude Ruhnka (1891-1981) was a research librarian at the Huntington Library in California. She was the daughter of German immigrants August Edward Ruhnke (1860-1927) and Mary Steiglitz (1868-1962).

Scope and Contents

Unpublished manuscript by Gertrude Ruhnka (1891-1981), entitled "Love for life: a self-portrait of the first three generations of du Ponts in America, 1791-1834." Also includes two letters from Ruhnka to J.B. Lippincott Company and to Dr. Walter J. Heacock of the Eleutherian Mills-Hagley Foundation. The collection was given to Lucile Fessenden Dandelet (1919-2007), a photographer of Marin County, California, upon Ruhnka's death.
