Biographical Note

Wilhelmina du Pont (1906-2000) was the daughter of William K. du Pont (1875-1907) and Ethel Hallock (1876-1951), a fourth generation descendent from E.I. du Pont (1771-1834). She attended Tower Hill School and graduated from Westover School in Middlebury, Connecticut. In 1928, she married Donald P. Ross (1902-1973). The couple made their home at Applecross in Greenville, Delaware. The couple had three children.

Du Pont was president and active in the Visiting Nurse Association, chairman of the Advisory Committee of Longwood Gardens, and a member of the Wilmington Garden Club and the Garden Club of America. She died June 25, 2000.

Scope and Contents

Special Christmas calling card created for Wilhelmina du Pont by the Philadelphia artist M. Adine L. Robinson (1885-1982). It depicts a young couple in late Victorian dress in silhouette. The fact that the owner is identified as "Wilhelmina du Pont" suggests that the card predates her 1928 marriage to Donald P. Ross (1902-1973).
