Biographical Note
William W. Morris (1869-1931) was a farmer in Greenwood, Sussex County, Delaware. He was born in 1869 to Isaac Morris (1840-1916) and Sarah Timmons (1846-1906). In 1891, he married Mary Catherine Layton (1870-1954) and they had William, Vertie, John, and Sarah. Morris died in 1931 and is buried in Bishopville, Maryland.
Scope and Contents
This is a collection of miscellaneous bills, checks, and receipts that was preserved primarily as a sample of late nineteenth century letterheads and billheads, although it also documents the typical purchases of a downstate Delaware farmer. There are items that apparently come from Morris's father who practiced law and was also a farmer. There are railroad passes from the Junction and Breakwater Railroad Company and Philadelphia, Wilmington and Baltimore Railroad Company.
