Historical note

The Woodlawn Trustees Incorporated, a legacy of the Bancroft family, is a major landowner in the area around Wilmington, Delaware. It engages in residential and commercial development, balanced with the preservation of open space. Woodbrook and Sharpley, two neighborhoods Woodlawn began developing in 1954 and 1956 respectively, are two typical mid-twentieth century suburban housing developments located between Rockland and U.S. Route 202 in Brandywine Hundred.

Scope and Contents

The files are illustrative of the process of creating suburban residential subdivisions from the 1950s to 1970s. They include property deeds and agreements, plat maps of the sites, advertising materials, and the charger and handbook of the Woodbrook Civic Association. There is also a history of the Sharpley development for the Sharpley website.
