Abstract

William Corbit Spruance (1873-1935) was an electrical engineer and Vice President in Charge of Production at E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company. His wife, Alice Moore Lea Spruance (1876-1967), was a member of a Wilmington, Delaware, flour-milling dynasty. Spruance family miscellany contains threes letters, two regarding a forestry bill and one a thank you letter. Additionally, there are two copies of a newspaper article titled "This was the Civil War".

Biographical Note

William Corbit Spruance (1873-1935) was an electrical engineer and Vice President in Charge of Production at E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company.

On May 4, 1907, he married Alice Moore Lea Spruance (1876-1967), the daughter of Delaware governor Preston Lea (1841-1916) and his first wife Adelaide Moore (1846-1888). Since the 1770s, the Lea family were among the largest flour mill operators at the Brandywine Falls, north of Wilmington, Delaware.

The couple had three children.

Spruance family miscellany contains threes letters, two regarding a forestry bill and one a thank you letter.

The correspondence includes two letters to Alice Lea Spruance from Delaware Senator Thomas F. Bayard and Congressman William H. Boyce regarding the McNary-Clarke Forestry Bill.

There is one Letter of C. D. Porch, clerk of the Westminster Presbyterian Church thanking Colonel Spruance for his help at a church dinner.

Also included are two copies of a newspaper article titled "This was the Civil War".
