Abstract

Charles J. Pedersen (1904-1989) was a research chemist with E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company who spent most of his career at the Jackson Laboratory in Deepwater, New Jersey, and the Elastomer Chemicals Department in Wilmington, Delaware. This collection consists of two laboratory notebooks from Jackson Laboratory from 1956.

Biographical Note

Charles J. Pedersen (1904-1989) was a research chemist with E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company who spent most of his career at the Jackson Laboratory in Deepwater, New Jersey, and the Elastomer Chemicals Department in Wilmington, Delaware.

Pedersen was born in Pusan, Korea, on October 3, 1904, and was educated at the University of Dayton and M.I.T. His major achievement was the discovery of crown ethers, and he shared the 1987 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, the only DuPont researcher to win that honor to date. Pedersen died on October 27, 1989.

Two laboratory notebooks, JLNB 7249 and JLNB 7326, recording Pedersen's work at the Jackson Laboratory during the year 1956.
