Scope and Contents
The minutes of the Edison Electric Institute's Transmission and Distributing Committee (1935, 1941-1970) include both business transactions of the committee and professional papers of representatives of member utility companies on a variety of subjects related to the transmission and distribution of electricty. The bulk of these are technical in nature, regarding industry standards and best practices in such matters as high-tension lines, underground and underwater cables, insulators (particularly new plastics), and wood and metal transmission towers.
There is also some discussion of the use of radio in line maintenance, street lighting, rural electrification, the additional power demands imposed by electric air conditioners, community television antennas, and attempts to improve the appearance of above-ground transmission lines, as well as some information on promoting employee safety and training.
