Alexander Magoun advertising collection

Alexander Magoun was the curator for the David Sarnoff Library from 1998 until 2000. After earning his Ph.D. in American History from the University of Maryland in 2000, he led the David Sarnoff Library as the Executive Director from 2000 until 2009. This collection includes advertisements from RCA and other companies for radios, televisions, phonographs, and other consumer electronics.

Historical Note
Alexander Magoun earned his B.A. in History from Trinity College in 1981. He then received his M.A. in History from the University of East Anglia in 1983. From 1998 until 2000 Magoun was the curator for the David Sarnoff Library. After earning his Ph.D. in American History from the University of Maryland in 2000, he led the David Sarnoff Library as the Executive Director from 2000 until 2009. He currently works as the outreach historian for the IEEE History Center.

The Alexander Magoun advertising collection includes advertisements from RCA and other companies for radios, televisions, phonographs, and other consumer electronics. This collection contains advertisements from popular publications including National Geographic and The Saturday Evening Post as well as technical publications such as Electronic Servicing Technology and Radio Electronics.

Provenance
Alexander Magoun donated the collection to the David Sarnoff Library in 2004 and 2007. In 2009, along with the rest of the archival collections of the David Sarnoff Library, the Alexander Magoun advertising collection was donated to the Hagley Museum and Library.
