Public Relations Department, 1930-1988
Part of collection: The Seagram Company, Ltd. records (2126)
Dates
- Creation: 1930-1988
Scope and Contents
This subseries is drawn mainly from the records of Harry Bulow, a public relations staff person at Warwick & Leger Advertising who later joined Seagram full-time. The files include clippings, correspondence, photos, press releases and speeches. Most of the records pertain to members of the Bronfman family and family philanthropies. There are also records documenting the company's real estate including 375 Park Avenue (Seagram Building), as well as the "Rutkin case". In 1948, James "Niggy" Rutkin accused the Bronfmans of cutting him out of a 1931 deal to purchase L. L. & B. Distilleries, Ltd. Rutkin eventually lost the well-publicized lawsuit. A substantial number of photographs from this subseries were sent to Hagley's Pictorial Department.
