- Creation: 1948-1959
Historical Note
In 1948, Edwin H. Armstrong, inventor of FM radio, filed suit against the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) and the National Broadcasting Company (NBC) for theft and patent infringement. The case was filed in United States District Court for the District of Delaware, as Civil Action No. 1139, Edwin H. Armstrong v. Radio Corporation of America and National Broadcasting Company. RCA and NBC eventually settled the suit for $1 million in December of 1954, but it was too late for Armstrong who, mentally and financially depleted from years of court battles over his inventions, committed suicide earlier in the year.
