Biographical Note

Leonard P. Fox earned a BS in 1948 and an MS in 1949 in chemical engineering from Lehigh University. He began to work for RCA Lancaster in 1949; while there he completed an MS in physics from Franklin and Marshall College in 1956. Fox eventually moved to RCA Somerville where he oversaw etching and plating processes, then the RCA plant in Moorestown, New Jersey, where he served as Manager of printed circuit manufacturing engineering. In 1970, Fox moved to the David Sarnoff Research Center at Princeton, where he became Head of the VideoDisc Applied Process research group in the Materials and Processing Research Laboratory.

Fox was awarded four U.S. patents, and was the recipient of an RCA Laboratories Outstanding Achievement Award. He died in Cherry Hill, New Jersey in 2012.

Scope and Content

The Leonard P. Fox papers are composed of articles, notes, and photographs of chemical processes related to Fox’s work on the research and development of etching and plating techniques to improve the production of VideoDiscs, particularly on the conductive coating for the VideoDisc surface and on scratch testing.

One of Fox's lab notebooks (1970-1980) can be found in Record group 26.
