Biographical Note

George Allen Billingsley Jr. (1908-2002) was a textile chemist for the Joseph Bancroft & Sons Bancroft Mills for thirty-five years before retiring in 1975.

Billingsley was born January 21, 1908, in Wilmington, Delaware, to Mary Dougherty Billingsley (1878-1953) and George A. Billingsley (1871-1942). He graduated from St. Anselm College in New Hampshire. For thirty-five years, he worked for the Joseph Bancroft & Sons Bancroft Mills in Wilmington. Additionally, he was a longtime member and trustee of St. Helena’s Roman Catholic Church in Bellefonte and served as a captain in the Delaware National Guard.

He died on September 26, 2002.
