Biographical Note

Raymond S. Babiarz (1917-2017) worked at Joseph Bancroft & Sons Company, rising from textile chemist to director of development, and then worked for the DuPont Company in various capacities.

Babiarz was born in Wilmington, Delaware to Catherine (Katarzyna) Feret Babiarz (1895-1992) and Ludwig Babiarz (1893-1942). He graduated from Drexel University with a degree in chemical engineering. After graduating, he went to work at Calvert Distillery in Relay, Maryland.

In 1940, Babiarz joined Joseph Bancroft & Sons, rising from textile chemist to director of development. During his tenure, he was credited with several patents relating to the processing of textile fibers. In 1965, he joined the DuPont Company and worked in various capacities until his retirement in the 1980s.

He died on August 19, 2017, in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania.
