Biographical Note
Jacquelin Lee McConaughey (1920-2001) was an artist and longtime employee of the DuPont Company. McConaughey was born in Philadelphia to Edna Margaretta O'Neill and James Collier McConaughey, who was Medical Director of the Philadelphia Electric Company. She attended the Philadelphia College of Art. Upon graduation she worked as an artist creating retail advertisments before joining the DuPont Company in Wilmington, Delaware. Her early work for DuPont focused on creating commercial displays and corporate exhibits. McConaughey was a resource for DuPont's paint-related enterprises. She played an instrumental role in DuPont's Environmental Color System. Her artwork of manufacturing facilities highlighed DuPont's color palette and these paintings were used to promote DuPont's ability to "harmonize" with nature rather than contrast with it.
Scope and Content
This collection consists of three photographic prints of paintings by Jacquelin L. McCongaughey for the DuPont Company as part of environmental color planning. Two prints are of manufacturing facilities and one shows a dock and harbor.
