Abstract

Herny S. Rothrock (1906-1986) was a DuPont research chemist. In 1930, he joined the staff of the Experimental Station of E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company. He obtained fifty-six patents, chiefly in the field of polymer chemistry and served ten years at liaison manager in the Central Research Department, retiring in 1971. This collection consists primarily of photos relating to DuPont's Experimental Station in Wilmington, Delaware. There are group photos of new employees in the Central Research Department, committees and conferences and press release photos from the 1964 New York World's Fair.

Biographical Note

Herny S. Rothrock (1906-1986), was a DuPont research chemist and Delaware tennis champion, born at Bloomington, Indiana, on September 17, 1906, and graduated with a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania in 1930. He immediately joined the staff of the Experimental Station of E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company as a research chemist and supervisor, obtaining fifty-six patents, chiefly in the field of polymer chemistry. He served ten years at liaison manager in the Central Research Department, retiring in 1971. He died at Wilmington on May 12, 1986.

Scope and Content

This collection consists primarily of photographs relating to DuPont Company's Experimental Station in Wilmington, Delaware. There are group photos of new employees in the Central Research Department for each year from 1922 to 1959 (all individuals are identified), as well as group photos of the Experimental Station War Bonds Sales Committee (1943) and Conference on Compounds at Indiana University (1953). There are also a handful of aerial photos of the Experimental Station, dating from 1920 to 1968. In addition, the collection contains press release photographs from the 1964 New York World's Fair showing the DuPont Pavilion, "The Wonderful World of Chemistry" musical revue, and fashions featuring DuPont fabrics.
