Biographical Note
Thomas J. Godson (1894-1992) was an employee of the DuPont Company for thirty four years, primarily working in the Paint and Varnish Division. He was born in Hoboken, New Jersey in 1894. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I. Immediately following the war, he worked as a salesman for the Davis Baking Powder Company. In 1925 he accepted a position with the DuPont Company as a salesman of DUCO quick dry finishes for the automotive industry. His first position was that of a Fleet Sales Representative, and his territory ranged from New England to the Carolinas. Following World War II, the Refinishing Department reorganized into several Refinish Service Warehouses where paint inventories were kept; Godson was assigned to the Buffalo, New York division. He retired in 1959.
Scope and Content
This collection consists primarily of photographs of DuPont's Buffalo, New York Refinish Service Warehouse and group portraits of the office staff, salesmen, and warehouse crew working there. There are also a number of group portrait photographs from sales conferences attended by Godson in 1937, 1941, and the 1950s. Another group photograph appears to show the attendees of an early DUCO sales conference, and may date to around 1925, when Godson started with the DuPont Company.
