Historical Note
E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company is a chemical company. The Moberly Plant was an automotive finishes plant in Moberly Missouri from 1968 through 1990. The plant manufactured topcoat paints used to repair or refurinsh vehicles. Acquiring the land and negotiating with the city's Chamber of Commerce began in 1965. Plant operations commenced in the spring of 1969. Several buildings were added throughout the 1970s and early 1980s. The manufacturing areas were expanded in 1987. The plant closed in 1990.
Scope and Content
This collection consists of materials related to the former DuPont Company site in Moberly, Missouri, from 1968 to 1990. Materials include newsletters, guides to the plant, a magazine, a yearbook, certificates, photographs, slides, and negatives. There are oversize aerial photographs of the grounds, exteriors of the buildings and images of construction at the plant site. The two issues of the plant newspaper are from open house events held in 1979 and 1988. The guide contains extensive information about the plant, production and operations including color photograph reproductions and diagrams. The yearbook provides an overview of the plant history and photographs of employees.
