Mather & Company was a printer of motivational workplace posters, based out of Chicago, Illinois between 1923 and 1929. They produced colorful lithographs of artfully done images accompanied by a witty captions that demonstrated workplace interpersonal interactions and appropriate behaviors, ideals, and guidelines. Businesses would subscribe and receive a new poster every week.
Scope and Content
Poster designed by Frank Beatty (1899-1984) and used to motivate workers after the Stock Market Crash. It depicts a black bird with a red breast in a tree singing; next to it is a nest with two baby birds in it. The caption reads: "No Room For Gloom. Those who put things over are too busy to be blue. HOPING BEATS MOPING."
