Abstract

World's Fairs or International Expositions are large-scale exhibitions that highlight technology, agriculture and other innovations of national or cultural significance. World's Columbian Exposition, the Chicago World's Fair which was staged from May to October, 1893, commemorated 400 years since Columbus's New World arrival. This small collection consists of four "pop-up books" from the 1893 Columbian Exposition.

World's Fairs or International Expositions are large-scale exhibitions that highlight technology, agriculture and other innovations of national or cultural significance. These fairs are open to the general public and can run for three weeks to six months.

World's Columbian Exposition, the Chicago World's Fair which was staged from May to October, 1893, commemorated 400 years since Columbus's New World arrival. The architecture was a significant part of the event itself; the buildings included large exhibition halls and buildings representing many states.

Scope and Content

This small collection consists of four "pop-up books" from the 1893 Columbian Exposition. Book 1 includes: Machinery Hall, the Administration Building, the Illinois State Building, and the Forestry Building. Book 2 includes: the Naval Exhibit, the Pier, and the Fisheries Building. Book 3 includes: the Electrical Building, the Hall of Mines, and the Wisconsin State Building. Book 4 includes: the casino and pier, the Art Palace, and the Dairy Building. The books were printed in Germany.
